A Second-Generation Business

Thomas Kelley

Thomas began his electrical career in 1976 as an apprentice for IBEW Local 134. He started as a residential apprentice, “bungalow busting” in the Chicago neighborhoods, and worked his way up to a journeyman and eventually to a foreman. There he served on large electrical construction projects throughout the City of Chicago and his dream of starting his own electrical business was born.

He founded M. T. Kelley Electric in 1994 with his beloved wife, and Vincent’s mother, Mary Therese Kelley (hence the “M. T.” in the company name). After leading the company for 20 years Thomas officially retired from the electrical industry in 2016. He now spends his winters in Bonita Springs, Florida to get away from the Chicago winters, but still serves as an informal consultant for the company. He stops by the office often in the summer time to check in, or work in the shop on one of his toys.

Vincent Kelley

Vincent is the current leader of M. T. Kelley Electric, succeeding his father Thomas Kelley in 2014. Vince graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Northern Illinois University. He followed in this fathers’ footsteps joining IBEW Local 134 in 2005, and has been a part of the family business ever since.

Currently, Vince handles estimating and field operations for M. T. Kelley. He also heads the business development and strategic planning operations. When not at work, you can find Vince at his children’s extracurricular activities, traveling with his family to sporting events, or enjoying the great outdoors. Vince’s favorite thing about working for a second generation family business is watching his customer’s businesses grow and evolve over the years.
